ARKADY LEYTUSH, Conductor
One of Russia’s most gifted conductors, Arkady Leytush has directed orchestras in Europe, South America, and the United States to great acclaim. Critics have described him as “a conductor who always delivers a version in the best style of a composer…”, and his dynamic interpretations have made him an audience favorite.
Leytush’s artistry is known throughout the former Soviet Union as mostly an opera conductor with various opera and ballet theaters such as Ufa Opera & Ballet Theatre (associate conductor), Omsk State Musical Theatre (associate conductor), Perm State Academic and Ballet Theater (guest conductor), Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater (associate conductor), North Osetinsky Musical Theatre (principal conductor) to name a few. Along with those accomplishments he conducted Symphony Orchestras as well.
Arkady Leytush received his education at the Glinka State Conservatory and at the Mussorgsky State Conservatory (opera and symphony conducting) under the direction of professor Mark Paverman. He has also had private instruction with Boris Khaikin, Kirill Kondrashin, and Gennady Rojdestvensky. In 1987 he received Bolshoi Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre Advance Training Certificate.
In 1994, on a three days’ notice, he made a stunning debut with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, replacing Yuri Temirkanov.
Leytush has worked with a wide variety of orchestras, which include the Manhattan Virtuosi (principal guest conductor), New World Symphony, New York Chamber Symphony, Buenos Aires Philharmonic, Moscow Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, Porto National Orchestra.
Since 2001 Mr. Leytush is a Music Director of an annual Gala Concert for Holocaust Remembrance with the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra which is taking place every Fall in New York at the Cathedral of St.Johns the Divine.
Another special project was a co-organization of the late Nathan Rakhlin Memorial Foundation in New York. Mr. Leytush conducted several performances that were given in memoriam to Nathan Rakhlin.
Until the end of 2004 Mr. Leytush will appear with St. Petersburg State Orchestra, Nizhniy Novgorod Philharmonic Orchestra and Buenos Aires Philharmonic.
Arkady Leytush has made numerous transcriptions and orchestrations of music by composers such as Bach, Buxtehude, Mussorgsky, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Albeniz, Czerny, Sisler, Guastavino and Shostakovich.
