The New York Empire Trio was founded by three highly experienced chamber musicians. The trio members have performed in numerous concert series in the United States and internationally. Their repertoire ranges from the early classics to the music of today. Future plans include a European tour in the summer of 2009, and debut concerts in Washington D.C. and at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
“Virtuoso-violinist extraordinaire”, Hristo Popov, brings tremendous experience to the concert stage. Popov made his orchestral debut at the age of nine and since then has performed throughout the United States, England, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Bulgaria, Italy, Switzerland, and Mexico as both recitalist and concerto soloist. He is founding member of The New York Empire Trio exclusively presented by Bulgarian Virtuosi Artists. Hristo Popov is a prizewinner at the Kozian International Violin Competition, Silver Medalist at the California Young Artist Competition, winner of the Grand Prize at the International Institute of Music (Germany, USA), first place at the American String Teachers' Association Chamber Music Competition. He has appeared in major chamber music festivals throughout the world. Popov has performed in major Performing Arts Centers in the United States including the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - Los Angeles, Severance Hall - Cleveland, John F. Kennedy Center - Washington D.C, and Casa Verdi – Milan, Italy. Hristo Popov performs music from the standard repertoire as well as significant works of the contemporary genre. American composer Thomas Janson has recently composed a number of works specifically for him. His performances have been documented on TV and radio stations in United States, Mexico, and Bulgaria and has recorded albums for TC Recordings and Bravante Records. Kalin Ivanov, cellist, is a prominent soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and recording artist. A native of Bulgaria, he began studying cello at the age of six with his father. He performs with: “dramatic urgency and expressive tone”(The Strad, London). A winner of the C.W. Post Chamber Music Festival Concerto Competition, he has performed in many countries, including Bulgaria, Greece, Austria, Switzerland, France, England, Russia, and the U.S. Mr. Ivanov, along with many prestigious musicians such as Natalia Gutman, Alexander Kniazev, Boris Pergamenstikov, Peter Bruns, Tomas Stral and recent winners of the Tchaikovsky competition, was selected to perform in the International Music Festival in commemoration of Daniel Shafran, which was sponsored by the Moscow State Philharmonic and the State Institute of Arts. The Music Life magazine, Moscow called him: “…recognized master of the cello.”Currently he is teaching cello and chamber music at a number of schools including Adelphi University, Long Island Conservatory, SUNY, Brooklyn College, CUNY, and leading master classes in the US and Europe. Mr. Ivanov previous and future solo performances include appearances with: Plovdiv Philharmonic, Sofia Philharmonic, Moscow chamber orchestra - “Cantus Firmus”, Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, Manhattan Virtuosi and Ensemble du Monde - Chamber Orchestras, and others. He is also a founding member of The Forte String Quartet, New York EMPIRE Trio, and Bulgarian Piano Quartet. Grammy nominated pianist Joshua Pierce grew up in New York City, studying at the Juilliard School of Music, where for seven years he was the recipient of the Heckscher Foundation Award, as well as awards from the Manhattan School of Music, Columbia University, and the Cleveland Institute where he received the Victor Babin Award. Many more awards would follow during his career. His principal teacher and mentor was Dorothy Taubman, with extensive chamber music work with Bernard Greenhouse, Joseph Seiger and Arthur Balsam. He has performed in prestigious music centers throughout the world as a soloist and with an extraordinary array of orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonia, Symphony Orchestra of Russia, Moscow State Philharmonic, Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra. He has recorded over 200 works including the complete piano concertos of Beethoven, Brahms, Liszt and Gershwin as well as numerous World Premieres as a soloist and with orchestra for MSR Classics, EMI Classics, Carlton Classics, Helicon, Koch International Classics, MMC, Pro Arte, Sony Classics, Vox and other labels. His landmark series of recordings of John Cage's music on the Wergo label has earned him tremendous acclaim worldwide. His 25-year collaboration with the pianist Dorothy Jonas, as part of the two-piano team, Pierce & Jonas, has resulted in numerous acclaimed recordings and performances, including a command performance with the Royal Philharmonic for England's Royal Family. New York Empire Trio Presents Brooklyn Concerts on October 18 and 19 The New York Empire Trio will present two concerts in Brooklyn, New York this coming weekend:
Saturday, October 18 – 12:30 PM at the Brooklyn Center For Performing Arts, Sam Levenson Recital Hall, 2900 Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. This program is presented by the Brooklyn College Preparatory Center for Performing Arts.
Sunday, October 19 – 4 PM at Brooklyn Public Library, Central Library - Dweck Center, Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn.
Repertoire for these concerts will be Haydn’s Trio in D, Hob. XV:16, contemporary Bulgarian composer Roumi Petrova’s Eastern Connection Trio for Violin, Cello and Piano, Rachmaninov’s Trio Elegiaque in G minor and Dvorak’s Trio "Dumky" in E minor, op. 90.

New York Empire Trio in Concert on January 29 and 30 in Hudson and
Youngstown, Ohio
The New York Empire Trio will present concerts on January 29 – 8 PM at Chapel Hall of Western Reserve Academy, 115 College Street in Hudson, Ohio and on January 30 – 8 PM, at the Dana School of Music, Youngstown State University, One University Plaza, Youngstown, Ohio.
Repertoire for both concerts will be piano trios by Haydn, Schubert, and Dvorak. The newly formed New York Empire Trio consists of violinist Hristo Popov, cellist Kalin Ivanov, and pianist Joshua Pierce.
